Operational standards

Race Architecture & safety.

Every sanctioned APEX endurance event operates under strict medical, telemetry, and timing infrastructures.

  • Satellite Split Timing

Dual-frequency satellite beacons and millisecond RFID mats at each checkpoint. Live telemetry streamable globally via web dashboard.

  • Alpine Medical Triage

High-angle rescue personnel, dedicated helicopter evacuation links on standby, and mandatory pre-race medical screening audits.

  • Precision Nutrition Stations

Standardized hydrogel carbs (90g/hr ratio), tailored electrolyte broths, and temperature-controlled mountain fueling stations.

  • Acclimatization Protocols

Mandatory 48-hour pre-event staging workshops for all courses exceeding 2,500m elevation, including SpO2 saturation checks.

  • Finisher Tech Kit

Sanctioned finishers receive engraved titanium tokens, verified split certificates, and high-performance all-weather apparel.

  • Post-Race Coaching Debrief

Detailed breakdown of heart rate drift, power pacing curves, metabolic expenditure, and tactical splits with APEX coaches within 72 hours.

Athlete regulations

Frequently Asked questions.

How are ITRA points and corral pacing verified?

All registered competitors must provide their active ITRA or UTMB athlete index code during registration. Pacing corrals are stratified strictly according to verified historical performance over comparable elevation profiles to prevent mountain bottlenecks.

What medical clearances are required for high-elevation fixtures?

Athletes competing in high-altitude events must submit an ECG signed by a licensed sports physician within 90 days of the start date. Additionally, a resting SpO2 measurement and blood pressure screening are conducted at the mandatory pre-race technical briefing.

What is the protocol if severe alpine weather disrupts the route?

Every mountain race maintains a validated secondary route ("Route B") that bypasses exposed ridge zones while preserving the required distance and qualification points. Safety determinations are finalized at 04:00 UTC on race morning.

Can registration fees be deferred in case of medical injury?

Yes. Confirmed athletes can defer 100% of their event fee to any upcoming APEX fixture within 14 calendar months, provided a certified medical document is uploaded at least 21 days prior to the event date.
